Communities Protecting Our Coast

When You Love Something,
Stand Up For It

Who we are / Our Mission

We are a group of citizens who are deeply committed to protecting the Vancouver Island coast and the health of our coastal communities.  We come together to hold informative events, take action locally and support our Island communities.  We encourage you to join us.

We are located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada in the communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach and surrounding areas.  Communities Protecting our Coast (CPOC) started out as a group of eleven citizens who were deeply committed to preventing an oil spill on the B.C. coast.  The nucleus of the group developed after several of us presented our concerns to the National Energy Board (N.E.B.) regarding the proposal by Enbridge Pipeline.  Other future members joined us after the rally in Comox on March 31, 2012.  Our mission statement has expanded over the  years to encompass a broader vision of protecting our coast.  We continue in our commitment to stopping the expansion of oil tanker traffic on the coast.  However, we are also active in promoting healthy forests, productive salmon streams and a greener economy.  We are working at the local level to address the plastic pollution in our coastal waters.  We come from many backgrounds; legal, education, hospital administration, mental health, nursing, maritime, journalism, technology, business, geology, fisheries, aviation, service industries and computer sciences.
